Unfortunately, stress has become an inevitable companion. To understand how well you cope with the demands of daily life, researchers at the Boston University Medical Center have devised the Boston Stress Resilience Test. This comprehensive questionnaire delves into various aspects of your lifestyle, providing valuable insights into your stress management abilities. Let's explore the questions and interpret the results to gain a deeper understanding of stress resilience. 

The test comprises 20 statements you must respond to with numerical scores, regardless of whether this statement is relevant to you or not. Scores for the answers are as follows

Always - 1 

Often - 2 

Sometimes - 3 

Rarely - 4

  1. You eat at least one hot meal a day. 
  2. You sleep 7-8 hours at least four times a week. 
  3. You constantly feel love from others and reciprocate that love. 
  4. Within 50 kilometers, you have at least one person you can rely on. 
  5. You exercise enough to break a sweat at least twice a week. 
  6. You smoke less than half a pack of cigarettes per day. 
  7. In a week, you consume no more than five shots of hard liquor. 
  8. Your weight corresponds to your height  
  9. Your income completely satisfies your basic needs. 
  10. Your faith supports you. 
  11. You engage in club or community activities regularly. 
  12. You have many friends and acquaintances. 
  13. You have one or two friends you fully trust. 
  14. You are healthy. 
  15. You can openly express your feelings when you are angry or upset about something. 
  16. You regularly discuss your domestic issues with people you live with. 
  17. You do something just for fun at least once a week or laugh three times a week. 
  18. You can organize your time effectively. 
  19. In a day, you consume no more than three cups of coffee, tea, or other caffeinated drinks. 
  20. You have some time for yourself every day.

Less than 10 points: Excellent Stress Resilience 

Congratulations! Your low score indicates exceptional stress resilience. Your ability to navigate through life's challenges with ease bodes well for your overall well-being. 

11 to 30 points: Moderate Stress Resilience 

Your score falls within the normal range, reflecting a balanced approach to stress. You are likely equipped to handle the demands of an active life, but there's always room for improvement. 

31 to 50 points: Elevated Stress Resilience 

An elevated score suggests that stressors may notably impact your life. It's essential to consider strategies to enhance your stress resilience and maintain a healthier lifestyle. 

More than 50 points: High Vulnerability to Stress 

A score surpassing 50 points indicates high vulnerability to stress. It's crucial to reassess your lifestyle and consider making changes to protect your well-being from the adverse effects of stress. 

 

*Take a closer look at the statements you scored 3 or higher on. These are potential areas for improvement. For example, if statement 19 received a score of 4, consider reducing your daily caffeine intake by at least one cup. Small adjustments in these areas can contribute to a significant reduction in stress vulnerability.
